The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) is inaugurated on the 10th November. Following successful first-light observations, five years to the day since the ground-breaking in 2000, representatives of the international SALT partnership are gathering a SAAO. South African President Thabo Mbeki will attend the ceremony, alongside UCLan Vice-Chancellor Dr Malcolm McVicar and CFA Head Professor Gordon Bromage. This is the culmination of 5 years of hard work by the partnership, and the start of an exciting future of world-leading astronomy.
