Poster Presented by Jordan Thirlwall (year 3 MPhys Astrophysics – pictured right).
On 20/21 April 2015 students from UCLan presented their research internship posters at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research in Winchester
The British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) is a national event organised by UCLan and held at different locations across the UK each year. Several research internship students from UCLan attended the BCUR in Winchester this year, held on 20/21 April 2015. Amongst them was one of our Astrophysics MPhys students, Jordan Thirlwall, who is pictured here (right) discussing his work during a two hour session, when interest in his poster was shown by many other conference participants. Jordan’s internship work was on spectroscopic data from the SALT telescope, looking at a low luminosity, early-type galaxy (NGC59), with supervision from Dr. Anne Sansom. NGC59 may be an example of a building block for more massive galaxies and this work investigating its stellar populations has been published (Sansom, Thirlwall, Deakin, Vaisanen, Kniazev & van Loon, 2015, MNRAS, 450, 1338) – MNRAS – ArXiv
