Professor Victor Debattista teamed up with Abdul Hamid Qureshi, President of the Lancashire Council of Mosques to use UCLAN’s Alston Observatory to determine the exact date for the start of Eid, one of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year. This collaboration has brought together Muslim tradition with astronomical observations of the Moon and has been reported by BBC Asian Network.
