Four new post-doctoral staff join the CFA

The Centre has recruited four excellent researchers to work alongside lecturer staff on a range of projects in solar, stellar and extragalactic astrophysics. They come to us from all over the world, adding a wealth of new knowledge and experience to the Centre.

Dr Katrien Uytterhoeven joins us from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven via the Astronomical Institute in the Czech Republic. She will be working with Dr Stewart Eyres on a project to make systematic observations of Classical Novae in outburst.

Working with Professor Don Kurtz on world-leading asteroseismology research, Dr Lars Freyhammer comes to us from the Royal Observatory of Belgium. Prior to that he was studying in his home country at the Astronomical Observatory, Copenhagen.

Having recently completed his PhD at Observatoire Astronomique de Strasbourg, Dr Pierre Ocvirk is coming to work with Dr Anne Sansom. They will be developing and extending their work on Galactic Chemical Evolution.

Dr Aveek Sarkar has come from India via the Institut für Geophysik der Universität Göttingen to work with Dr Rob Walsh on solar coronal loops.
