Aurora spotted on the night sky during Alston Observatory public night

On the 3rd November, we held the first of our public observing night since the end of covid restrictions, at Alston Observatory near Preston. These nights involve a talk, a planetarium show and a chance to look through our large 0.7m Moses Holden Telescope. Visitors on Wednesday were especially lucky as they were able to observe Jupiter, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Ring Nebula and even an Auroral display. Later on we were even able to observe Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. We were assisted in this by PADAS (the Preston and District Astronomical Society), whose members provided some impressive photos.
