Supervisor: Dr Jason Kirk
The project will involve far-infrared and sub-millimetre observations, and the main aim is to create a new empirical model of star formation. The student will work with state-of-the-art instrumentation, such as the European Space Agency Herschel satellite, the new SCUBA2 camera on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii, and ALMA, the new sub-millimetre interferometer located in the Atacama Desert in Chile. The student will be working alongside some of the leading experts in the field, in international consortia, but the student will have a clearly-defined specific project within these teams.
