Kelly Hambleton awarded 2010 Summer Internship Research Prize

The JHI is pleased to report that Kelly Hambleton has been awarded First Prize at poster exhibition ceremony. Kelly’s work on the advanced morphological classification of galaxies involved a detailed comparison of observed galaxies with a large suite of simulated galaxies, the latter of which made extensive use of UCLan’s High Performance Computing Facility. The project lead was Professor Brad Gibson; said Gibson, “I could not be more pleased for Kelly. I handed her a project which was more suited to be a full year MSc project, and yet she managed to complete the work within a few short months. We are close to submitting what will be an excellent paper to one of the highest-impact refereed journals in the field of physical science, in recognition of the outstanding quality of Kelly’s research.”.
