JHI Undergraduates finish 3rd in regional final of IoP physics challenge

1st-year students from the JHI attended the north-west regional final of the Institute of Physics Challenge in Manchester on April 22nd 2015. The challenge was to build an electric motor from scratch without using any commercial components. The entire first year was split into 7 teams of 5 students each.

They competed in the local heats on March 18th, with the best 2 teams proceeding on to the regional final against other north-west universities. The remaining students also came along to watch and support. All the students enjoyed their day out and benefitted greatly from meeting their contemporaries at other universities. The successful team called themselves ‘Team Geoff’, and consisted of: Joseph Thompson, Sean Veysey, Jack Woolfindin, Hashim Sharif and Daniel Turner.

The first years set off.
