Second Surface Science Day is a roaring success

JHI members Joe Smerdon and Karen Syres served on the committee for the one-day Surface Science Day workshop at the University of Liverpool on 11th Dec 2017.  The day was a great success, with only one speaker cancellation after the harsh weather on the weekend. We had over 80 registered attendees and several sponsors, who financed the Poster Prize which was awarded by Professor Ronan McGrath to James Lawrence of Warwick University, who presented a poster on ‘Self-Assembly and On-Surface Reactions of Binol Molecules on Copper Surfaces’.

The conference was the second in the series.  The first was held at UCLan in June 2015 to promote the launch of the Nanophysics Laboratory, and was such a success that on the day our friend Hem Raj Sharma offered to host this year’s conference at the University of Liverpool.  The conference is proving so popular with new scientists and old that we are switching to yearly delivery, with several institutions in the running to host next year’s event.
